What is prostatitis?

Prostatitis is the general term used to describe prostate inflammation (-itis). Because the term is so general, it does not adequately describe the range of abnormalities that can be associated with prostate inflammation. Therefore, four types of prostatitis are recognized.

Comment from: ken, 55-64 Male (Patient) Published: January 29

I have been suffering with chronic prostatitis for around 8 years. I have been treated with Cipro and tamsulosin. The symptoms recede after treatment and return more aggressively. Now they are worse and at night I have the urge to empty my bladder up to 4 times. The pain on the tip of the penis and near the anus area is more intense; during the day the flow gets better but the pain is still there, towards the evening things start going downhill. Maybe surgery is the only option.
