I had a root canal done, and after it was done, I got an abscess. My gum swelled up, and so did the right upper side of my face.

November 29th I went to the ER because I had an infection and was severely dehydrated from an abscessed tooth. I had three pulled about three months prior. My insurance wouldn't cover the other two until my next visit which I haven't went to yet. Well at the ER the doctor prescribed me clindamycin. I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa. Well I was prescribed to take two pills four times a day. Great finished them. There was 28 I believe. Well I still had a hard spot next to me nose. It never went away. Today it's swelled to where I can't breathe out my nose on that side and my eye is throbbing from the area being swollen. So my question is did these antibiotics even work? Is the infection too strong?

Three of my teeth shattered within a month. At first there was no pain, but then a few weeks later, the pain multiplied exponentially. I went to the ER and all they could do for me was write me some antibiotics and some pain meds. Being a working, normal American, I can't afford what if coverage. After a few weeks, the pain just stopped and it hasn't returned since, this concerns me because I've heard of people dying as a result of abscesses.

Then my tooth started to hurt went to dentist he said oh small cavity I went back to get it filled and said I think something is wrong and he x-rayed it and sure enough infected that horrible pain in my neck not even a chiropractor knew what was up. Now I had a partial root canal just started antibiotics and my tooth hurts worse going back to get another look a.s.a.p.! I can't wait another week for appointment my head is going to explode!!!! What a horrible pain I can't even think....

I experienced heat and cold sensitivity with my abscessed tooth. When I brush my teeth on the sore area, it feels OK, until I rinse my mouth out, and then the pain starts. Any contact near or towards the area of the tooth, will set off the pain. Believe me, I had to use hydrogen peroxide, and Motrin PM 200 mg at night before bedtime, just to get some relief. In the morning I can feel the aching, and it goes on throughout the day, along with bad headaches. I need an affordable dentist badly.

Believe it or not - I could not touch my cheek for weeks with an abscessed tooth. I could eat hot/cold, hard/soft. But not wash my face or put on makeup.

My husband loves cookies, candy, etc. He grew up without receiving the proper dental care. He was in the habit of eating sweets before going to bed. I use to tell him about the acidic breakdown of his enamel, if he continued to practice this bedtime ritual. 17 years later, I have 6', over 200 pound man whimpering like a baby, because he would not take care of the problem asap. Now I'm online every day, trying to find affordable care for him.
