Patient Comments: Abscessed Tooth - Symptoms

What symptoms did you experience with your abscessed tooth?

Comment from: 55-64 Female (Patient) Published: December 05

One evening I popped off a gold crown on my back molar. This crown is 30 years old. I thought I could go the next day and have it put back on. I was wrong, that night I started with pain, and by the morning I could hardly talk or move my mouth. The pain went from my back jaw all the way up to my ear. I saw a dentist and he said I had an abcessed tooth. He said I need to go to a specialist, so I did and by end of the day he removed the nerve and started root canal treatment. It got rid of the tooth pain, but the next day my jaw was so sore and swollen, I could not eat or drink. I had pain pills to take. By day number 2 I started to feel better and was back to work. I had not seen a dentist in 15 years, so did not know I had problems. I have not had dental insurance, I now took some out for $35/mo. It covers 40-60% but you can not go forever without seeing a dentist.

Throbbing pain, swelling of the face and what feels like a sinus infection not to mention the horrible sinus headaches. I can't bite down or close my mouth, eat solids or chew.

The symptoms of my abscessed tooth were swollen face, hurts when I touch it or brush my teeth. The tooth that seems infected was cracked almost in half a few years ago, but due to brushing and flossing regularly never had a problem with it until now. Been throwing up for the past two days, can't sleep, can't eat. I can't wait for the dentist to open on Monday. I will get the tooth pulled, save it causing me anymore trouble in the future.

I had been having pain in my tooth for two months plus severe sinus pain. I ended up going to two doctors a total of four times and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. I went to the dentist twice and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. The dentist said it was a 95% chance it was a sinus infection since that tooth had had a root canal done on it! Well, I went to the dentist yesterday and finally my tooth had abscessed and so had the rest of my upper gums. Immediately, I had the tooth pulled and feel so much better now. Moral of the story: Sometimes what looks like and feels like a sinus infection is an infected tooth, even if the roots are "dead."

My tooth hurt for a constant week and is still in very much pain! The first few days it was a constant throb and felt like a lot of pressure was on the surrounding teeth. Then all the pain went straight to the tooth, which is the top left 2nd molar. It feels like all the surrounded teeth are loose and moving, pain (a lot of pain), swollen gums and upper jaw bone, throat feels a bit swollen, very bad nausea, I threw up for 2 days. It's horrible and I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy! Toothaches are the worst, but this is just absurdly ridiculous!

10 plus years ago, I had a root canal and crown. In time of course this tooth failed and abscessed. Following extraction, the adjoining tooth also failed and is now abscessed and facing extraction. Both were very painful, and I was unable to eat or sleep more than 3 to 4 hours at a time. Of course this occurred on a weekend and I now must wait to see dentist. There is no cure, only relief with removal. Do not put off seeing a dentist, it will only get worse.

I haven't had a root canal I had trauma to the face and tooth. My tooth after being beat up were all the white hard casing around the tooth started to crack off in small pieces and hurts like crazy gum pain jaw pain ear ache throbbing migraines because the nerve is connected to another nerve on the side on the head. Hurts like hell. Haven't been able to brush my teeth since that so there all starting to decay never go without brushing your teeth.
