Patient Comments: Abscessed Tooth - Symptoms

What symptoms did you experience with your abscessed tooth?

I had an abscess in the area of my upper wisdom tooth. I had severe swelling, and it felt like half a lemon was stuck to the roof of my mouth. I had slightly throbbing pain and a slight fever. I also had a sore throat, ear pain, eye pain, headache, and neck pain. I was prescribed amoxicillin and it started working almost immediately. This is just my second day on the antibiotic and I'm almost back to 100% normal again.

For a few years I've had a problem with a molar. It was very sensitive. Suddenly, I got terrible pain along my lower jaw, to my ear. The dentist said I had two abscesses on it, so he removed it. The dentist thought I might have dry socket, so he prescribed an antibiotic. A month later, the gums are still quite sore. I regret not trying the root canal treatment first.

When it began to hurt, I thought it was caused by something I ate, because I had a root canal on that same tooth. I experienced very bad pain and every tooth in my mouth felt as if they were aching. I had emergency treatment with antibiotics and pain pills.

I have an abscessed molar. I'm experiencing severe pain that spreads to my jaw, throat-- even my eyes. amoxicillin did not work. My doctor switched me to clindamycin, which worked but gave me diarrhea, cramps, etc. But the drug cleared up my infection in two days. This pain was so bad I had to double my normal morphine use (chronic pain) and may run short this month, but I had no choice.

My 5 year old has an abscessed tooth. His tummy is constantly upset. I keep being told it's not because of his tooth, but the puss is seeping out. This has been going on since the beginning of December. We went to a dentist only to find out it can not be pulled. Now we are waiting until the end of January to get it pulled with an oral surgeon. Unless you have a fever or swelling, no one seems to care, it's very frustrating. I have no idea what I should do for him in the meantime.

I went to the emergency room with uncontrollable tremors and a feeling of vertigo. They said I had an abscessed tooth. Five hours and 2 vicodins later I woke up to go to work. I experienced severe nausea and dizziness. I felt like I was on fire. I went to go lay back down and fainted, and hit my head from the pain. I went back to the emergency room and they gave me an amoxocillin shot and a shot for pain. My tooth is still hurting. I am taking Ibuprofin for pain management and hoping the antibiotic will kill the pain in time for work tomorrow since I can not have the tooth extracted until the infection is gone. I do not care to go through the extraction without the benefit of novacain.

I had a broken tooth that I had been unable to care for due to finances. It continued to erode and finally became loose. There was gum swelling, some throbbing pain, and some discharge that smelled sweet in a bad way. I saw the dentist yesterday and he wanted to do a deep cleaning (planing) for all 4 quarters of my mouth. Before extracting the broken tooth. I had him extract the tooth which had abscessed and had Tylenol 2 for the pain which was incredible. I'm much better today, although it's still swollen and tender. I am rinsing with and taking colloidal silver to reduce infection and sterilize my mouth as well as COQ10 for the gum disease.
