Patient Comments: Abscessed Tooth - Symptoms

What symptoms did you experience with your abscessed tooth?

Comment from: Chris, 19-24 Male (Patient) Published: July 11

I have been dealing with abcessed teeth and infections for almost a year now, and it's a miracle I don't have more problems than I do. After probably 10 dental visits total now (for extractions) I have but 7 teeth left and 1 of which is still extremely infected. My appointment for the last ones is at the end of this month and I will be so relieved to get it over with. But I'm worried about this infection, after multiple antibiotics over the year I've been told that I'm not going to be given another script pre surgery. Which makes no sense, considering the oral surgeon will not pull it if theres an infection present. I'm hoping a visit to the doctors office will sort this out for good. Also my symptoms have been everything from swollen lymph nodes, the obvious throbbing pain, to sinus infection, double ear infection, pain in my neck near the right lymph node(since it was rock hard and swollen for months at a time, over and over) pain behind and under the ears, also a pain in the back of my neck leading up to the bottom of my head, which I'm really worried about. I'm 20 years old and all I have to say is don't ignore your teeth, because all you'll receive is a lot of pain.

I had bridge work done in 1990, and I went this year for a cleaning and the dentist broke one of my teeth under my bridge and now it gets infected, he gives me penicillin the swelling is in the roof of my mouth, it is bothersome but not too painful, does anyone know what can be done

It has now been two days. Hoping this will soon sub side it's the worst feeling ever, just makes you feel so down.

Out of nowhere my bottom left jaw started to hurt. It felt like all of my bottom left teeth were moving. The next day it was just my left eye tooth it hurt so bad I was in tears. When the pain got really bad it moved all the way into my ear. Worst pain I have ever experienced. Later that day I felt nauseous and dizzy. The next morning I woke up and my 2nd molar is killing me and my throat was swollen and I felt all around sick.

I had a crown put on my front tooth about ten years ago. Just a few days ago I was told that I had an abscessed where my crown is, but I had no pain, swelling or soreness of any kind. What I did have was constant sinus problems, earaches and swollen neck glands. So this was what was causing all my other problems.

My tooth and gums hurt so bad. I just got a root canal done two weeks ago and here the tooth beside the one also was abscessed. I got on clindamycin since I am allergic to penicillin. I was over half way done and my gum started to swell, within two days I got a white puss pocket and the pain got way worse then I went to the bathroom to look at my mouth and I was feeling so sick in my stomach and the puss pocket broke so I pushed on my mouth and pushed the white puss out. Lots of puss and some blood. I pray this gets better asap!!! Tooth pain is the worse!!

I had to drive myself to the ER twice to get the infection drained out, and to get a pain injection, the worst pain ever my throat and my mouth are swollen and I can't get the dentist to work on my tooth until the infection is gone. I started with a pain on my tooth whenever I bit anything, next I knew I was crying with the most excruciating pain.
